BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated on Monday (September 21) that millions of taka were squandered on foreign trips by the head of government during the previous fascist administration, contrasting it with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s commitment to austerity.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, Rizvi highlighted that Prime Minister Rahman is leading a compact 35-member delegation to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York—the smallest delegation in the country's history—comprising essential officials, political leaders, and journalists.
Rizvi emphasized that the Prime Minister explicitly prohibited lavish receptions or costly diplomatic events funded by state or embassy resources. He added that such measures demonstrate the government's resolve to preserve public funds and support economic stability, proving that the administration prioritizes national interests above display. Senior party leaders, including Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, and Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, were present at the briefing.
