BNP Acting Secretary General and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Industrial Affairs Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated on Tuesday (September 22) that the government continues to incur a loss of ৳70 per liter on diesel sales despite the recent price adjustment.
Speaking at a discussion organized by the Nationalist Simultaneous Alliance at the National Press Club in Dhaka, Rizvi explained that global market fluctuations pushed government procurement costs to ৳205 per liter while diesel was previously being sold locally at ৳115, resulting in a ৳90 deficit per liter. He highlighted comparative regional diesel prices—such as ৳161 in Nepal, ৳164 in Myanmar, ৳179 in Sri Lanka, and over ৳134 in India—to underscore that domestic rates remained lower for a prolonged period.
Additionally, Rizvi addressed recent arson and explosion incidents in various parts of the capital, questioning the political motives of opposing factions and urging political groups to actively oppose violence alongside economic protests.
