National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam demanded the immediate withdrawal of the recent fuel price hike on Monday night (September 21), criticizing the decision as an "unreasonable burden" placed on the public.
In a statement published on his verified Facebook page, Nahid Islam claimed that 180 million citizens are paying the price for government inefficiency and mismanagement. He pointed out that this marks the third fuel price increase within months of the new government taking office and questioned why the administration did not temporarily reduce or suspend the 32% tax and duty levied on fuel imports to provide relief.
Nahid Islam further criticized the government's decision to allocate 44,000 crore Taka for implementing a new pay scale while attempting to save 10,000 crore Taka by raising fuel prices during a period of global economic volatility. Rejection of the fuel price hike was reaffirmed on behalf of the NCP, with a call for the government to restructure state spending rather than passing economic pressures onto the public.
