Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer ATM Azharul Islam has launched a scathing critique against the BNP and the Election Commission, accusing the ruling party of establishing a negative precedent by using loudspeakers to campaign for votes at polling centers on election day.

Speaking as the chief guest at a mass protest rally held at the Baitul Mukarram North Gate in Paltan, Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, Azharul Islam labeled the current Election Commission as "spineless" for expressing satisfaction with an election marred by overt code violations. He stated that the public voted for a comprehensive restructuring of state machinery during the July uprising, but instead witnessed merely a change of Prime Minister while systemic reforms were sidelined.

Azharul Islam questioned the legal basis of the February 12, 2026 national parliamentary election if BNP now claims that referendums and the July Charter lack constitutional backing. Highlighting that BNP had previously urged citizens to vote 'Yes' in the reform referendum, he accused the party of resorting to constitutional pretexts to deceive the public and maintain an Awami League-style governance framework. The rally was presided over by Dhaka North Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin and conducted by Dhaka South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud MP, with addresses from senior leaders including Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, Mahfuzur Rahman, Syed Zainul Abedin MP, and Maulana Yasin Arafat. Jamaat leaders urged the government to establish a constitutional reform council prior to the upcoming parliamentary session to honor the referendum mandate.
