NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain Slams Government Over Law Enforcement Incompetence and Delayed July Genocide Trials
NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain addressing youth leaders during the National Youth Conference 2026 in Dhaka.

Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Akhtar Hossain has launched a sharp attack against the government's operational failures, stating that despite having state intelligence reports, law enforcement agencies are failing to show the basic capability to arrest Awami League activists organizing rallies, setting fires, and causing explosions.

Delivering his address as the main speaker at the National Youth Conference 2026 organized by Jatiya Jubo Shakti (NCP's youth wing) on Sunday, November 1, 2026, under the theme 'State Reconstruction and Youth Employment', Akhtar Hossain warned that if the government repeatedly fails to fulfill public expectations, it loses its moral legitimacy to govern. He strongly condemned recent remarks by the Home Minister questioning the legal basis of the July Charter, reminding the administration that 70% of citizens voted 'Yes' in the national referendum, establishing a firm political, legal, and sovereign mandate for state reforms.

Akhtar Hossain further expressed grave concern over the perceived delay in prosecuting those responsible for the July genocide, pointing out that despite reshuffling the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecution team with pro-government lawyers, lower courts across Bangladesh show zero progress in holding human rights violators accountable. He also criticized the government for appointing party cadres as administrators in City Corporations and Union Parishads who are actively campaigning using public funds, while failing to protect employment in industrial sectors. Presided over by Jatiya Jubo Shakti President Advocate Tarikul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Engr. Farhad Sohel, the conference warned that NCP and Jubo Shakti will take to the streets if the government continues to undermine democratic aspirations.
