Md. Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has strongly criticized the government's response to ongoing readymade garment (RMG) worker protests, questioning the state's allegiance for deploying Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) paramilitary forces to suppress wage demands.
In a detailed statement released on his verified Facebook page on Sunday night, November 1, 2026, Nahid Islam expressed deep indignation over police and BGB crackdowns—including baton charges and tear gas usage—across major industrial belts in Gazipur, Mirpur, Ashulia, and Savar, which have left at least 30 people injured, including workers, journalists, and bystanders. He highlighted the glaring double standard where the government raises salary scales and pensions for public sector employees citing inflation, while framing 40 lakh garment workers' struggle for survival against skyrocketing commodity prices as a "political conspiracy."

Reminding the administration of the pivotal role played by working-class citizens during the July Mass Uprising, Nahid Islam urged the government to immediately open dialogue with workers, announce a fair minimum wage, unconditionally release all detained labor leaders and workers, halt factory blacklisting, ensure international buyers pay fair prices, and guarantee safe working environments with trade union rights.
