Ishayat Shahriyar Apratim, the son of Comilla University teacher Dr. Nahida Begum, had a profound passion for photography. Apratim frequently visited the Kotbari tourist center and surrounding hilly landscapes with his friends to capture scenic views, often exploring the hilly areas during school breaks.
On Saturday (September 19), Comilla-6 Member of Parliament Monirul Haque Chowdhury visited Apratim’s grieving family, where Apratim’s father, Firoz Shahriyar, shared these poignant memories.
Overwhelmed with grief upon meeting the lawmaker, Firoz Shahriyar broke down in tears, prompting MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury to weep alongside him.
Recalling the tragic day, Apratim’s father said, "He loved taking pictures and often clicked photos with many people. Yesterday, after performing Jummah prayers and having lunch, Apratim was getting ready to leave. He asked me, 'Baba, I'm going out for photography; should I keep this outfit or change?' I told him, 'No, this is fine.' He left wearing his panjabi and pajama. When he didn't return by late afternoon, I called his mother's iPhone that he had taken with him, but it was switched off. Later that night, we informed the police and filed a general diary (GD). Today (Saturday) at noon, local residents discovered Apratim's body while cutting bamboo."
He further added, breaking down in tears again, "If my boy had a bad character or any romantic involvement, it would be a different story. But they killed my son just for a phone!" MP Monirul Haque Chowdhury then consoled the heartbroken father.
To recall, Ishayat Shahriyar Apratim, a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School in the Comilla Kotbari area and the only child of Comilla University Bangla Department Associate Professor Dr. Nahida Begum, went missing on Friday afternoon (September 18) from the Kotbari area. The following day (Saturday) at noon, police recovered his body from a hilly slope in Sananda village, near the southern gate of Comilla University close to the Lalmai hills.
Police have arrested two teenage gang suspects, Tuhin and Anas, in connection with the murder.
