A case has been filed against a local Jubodal leader in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna on charges of extortion, attempted murder, and snatching money from a businessman.
The accused, Abdur Razzak Raja, son of the late Rajan Ali Pramanik of Bhavanipur village in Tatiband union, is the joint convener of Sujanagar Upazila Jubodal and a former joint convener of Rajshahi University Student Dal (Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal). The victim, Motaleb Hossain, is a businessman from the same village.
Sujanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozaffar Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon, stating that the case was registered on September 23. Four other individuals have also been named as accused alongside the Jubodal leader.
According to the case statement, Abdur Razzak Raja recently demanded ৳3 lakh in extortion from Motaleb Hossain. When the businessman refused to pay, the accused stopped him on his way to Dhaka in the Jahanara Kanchan Bazar area on September 20 around noon. He was dragged out of his vehicle, beaten, and mugged of ৳28,000.
Sujanagar Police Station OC Mozaffar Hossain stated that the victim's nephew, Mostak Hossain, filed the case naming Abdur Razzak Raja as the prime suspect. Police are currently conducting drives to arrest the accused.
However, accused Jubodal leader Abdur Razzak Raja dismissed the allegations as false and fabricated. He claimed that on the night of September 19, a procession of the banned Awami League was brought out by District Jubo League in the Chinakhara area, allegedly financed by Motaleb Hossain. Local party activists intercepted the procession and handed six individuals over to the police. Raja alleged that Motaleb fabricated this case through his nephew to protect himself, issuing a strong condemnation and protest against the charges.
