Dhaka Launches Single-Company Bus Service Across 6 Routes Amid Transport Owner Route Allocation Disputes
Public buses prepared for launch under the Bus Route Rationalization initiative at Manik Mia Avenue.

The Government of Bangladesh, through the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), BRTA, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has officially launched company-based bus services across six designated routes in the capital today, Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The inaugural ceremony took place at 11:00 AM at Manik Mia Avenue, led by Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas (Member of Parliament for Pabna-5 and Chief Coordinator of the Transport Owner-Worker Unity Council). Under this "One Company, One Route" framework, the government aims to eliminate reckless competition between rival operators by consolidating Dhaka's existing 98 fragmented bus routes into 32 integrated corridors. The initial phase deploys a planned fleet of 816 buses (796 non-AC and 20 AC units) managed by exclusive route operators.

However, the launch faces early friction as several bus operators have raised formal objections regarding route allocations and fitness compliance. Rajnigandha Paribahan, which operated on the Farmgate route for 36 years, filed a petition with DTCA after being reassigned to the Kanchpur route. DTCA Additional Executive Director Md. Mashiur Rahman acknowledged that operators including Rajnigandha, Prajapati, and Paristhan have route allocation disputes alongside fitness and paint-standard delays. Despite these initial challenges, DTCA confirmed that single-company operations are moving forward with ongoing regular consultations to resolve operational disputes.
