The government has officially constituted a six-member Minimum Wage Board tasked with reviewing and determining the new salary structure for readymade garment (RMG) workers across Bangladesh.
Minister for Labour and Employment Ariful Haque Choudhury announced the development during a press conference at the ministry on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 11:30 AM. Formed under the Bangladesh Labour Act, the board will be chaired by Senior District Judge Sheikh Ashfakur Rahman and takes effect immediately on November 1. Minister Choudhury assured that the board will convene its first meeting without delay to deliberate on minimum wage recommendations, urging garment workers to end street blockades and return to their respective factories.

Addressing the protests, the Minister noted that despite clear commitments given during tripartite meetings with BGMEA and BKMEA representatives on Saturday, certain political elements and infiltrators from a banned student organization had disguised themselves as workers to instigate chaos and disrupt public order. He called on citizens and factory workers to remain vigilant against sabotage while legal mechanisms work to deliver fair wages.
