According to sources from the Road Transport and Highways Division, the decision comes after the price of diesel was increased by ৳20 to ৳135 per liter on September 20. While the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) initially proposed a 20 poisha per kilometer increase based on standard adjustment ratios, the ministry capped the hike at 17 poisha. The revision raises city bus fares in Dhaka and Chattogram from ৳2.53 to ৳2.70 per kilometer, while minibus fares rise to ৳2.59 per kilometer. Long-distance bus fares will increase from ৳2.23 to ৳2.40 per kilometer. The revised rates apply strictly to regular diesel buses, excluding air-conditioned services and freight vehicles.
