Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has called on China to invest in oil and gas exploration in Bhola and offshore blocks in the Bay of Bengal, while urging Beijing to play an active role in ensuring the sustainable repatriation of 1.2 million displaced Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
The Speaker made the proposal during a farewell courtesy call by outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at the Parliament Office on Tuesday (September 22). Emphasizing bilateral trade, technology transfer, and regional economic corridors, Speaker Hafiz Uddin reaffirmed Bangladesh's firm commitment to the 'One China Policy' and invited Chinese commercial entities to explore energy and manufacturing opportunities in Bangladesh. In response, Ambassador Yao Wen highlighted Beijing's interest in developing Bangladesh into a regional manufacturing and logistics hub, while reiterating support for economic initiatives including the proposed Bangladesh-Myanmar-China corridor and parliamentary exchanges.
