Schoolchildren Stranded in Vehicles Amid Explosive Clashes and Tear Gas Exposure in Mirpur-11
Schoolchildren trapped inside a school bus amidst tear gas smoke and police clearance operations in Mirpur-11.

Terrified schoolchildren returning home from classes were trapped inside gridlocked school buses, vans, and rickshaws on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, as violent clashes between police forces and protesters escalated on the fourth day of demonstrations in Mirpur, Dhaka.

The violent disruptions centered around the Mirpur-11 Metro Rail Station area, where traffic came to a total standstill following 9:00 AM street blockades. As police launched crowd dispersal operations using sound grenades and tear gas shells, children in uniform watching from vehicle windows were gripped by severe distress and panic. Many were seen crying and clinging to desperate parents who were unable to navigate through the chaos and thick smoke.

The situation forced the MRT Police to keep commercial operations at the Mirpur-11 station suspended, leaving trains to bypass the location entirely. Speaking in the afternoon, Md. Touhidul Arif, Deputy Commissioner of DMP's POM South Division, reiterated that the instigators responsible for blockading roads and throwing brickbats were not genuine garment workers, but targeted miscreants. He affirmed that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted to hold accountable those using labor demonstrations as cover to endanger children and ordinary citizens.
