Transparency Impossible Without Accurate Data, Says Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury
Parisankhyan Bhaban in Agargaon during the National Statistics Day 2026 proceedings.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has declared that operational transparency in governance is impossible without accurate and unmanipulated data. Emphasizing that statistical data constitutes the state's most vital asset on its financial balance sheet, he announced that the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has been granted complete operational independence to ensure data integrity.

Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting commemorating National Statistics Day 2026 at Parisankhyan Bhaban in Agargaon on Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Finance Minister stated that any intentional manipulation of official statistics amounts to self-deception by the government. He emphasized that effective economic policy, inequality resolution, and strategic development planning depend entirely on verifiable and credible figures accessible to researchers, policymakers, and the public.

To ensure unrestricted public access to data, Minister Amir Khasru announced an initiative to establish a nationwide open online database. He further highlighted that reliable data is indispensable for executing the government’s flagship digital infrastructure agenda, "One Citizen, One Wallet, One Card." Addressing institutional challenges at BBS, he assured that active steps are underway to resolve staff shortages and operational bottlenecks.

The event, chaired by Statistics and Informatics Division Secretary Md. Firoz Sarkar, was attended by special guests including Prime Minister's Political Adviser and Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman on Planning Zahir Uddin Swapon, Finance and Planning Ministry Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, and State Minister for Planning Md. Zonaid Abdur Rahim Saki.
