Former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku has expressed his clear intention to conduct his own legal defense at the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with humanity-related crime cases filed against him.

According to judicial and prosecution sources, Tuku's son—who serves as a teacher at Dhaka University—visited the office of the Chief Prosecutor, Md. Aminul Islam, to formally convey this decision. Informing authorities that his father wishes to bypass outside legal counsel and handle his own defense, the family sought necessary case files and documents.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam subsequently directed the assigned prosecutor, Mohammad Zahirul Amin, to facilitate the process in accordance with legal provisions.

Prosecutors noted that since Tuku is professionally a lawyer by background, he holds the full prerogative under tribunal guidelines to examine case documents, present personal defense arguments, and cross-examine witnesses.
