Former South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir has created T20 cricket history by becoming the oldest player to take a five-wicket haul in the format, delivering a match-winning spell in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Leading the Guyana Amazon Warriors against the Saint Lucia Kings, the 47-year-old leg-spinner finished with career-best figures of 5 for 17 in his 4 overs, conceding at an economy rate of just 4.25. His sensational performance powered Guyana to a four-wicket victory and earned him the Player of the Match award.

At 47 years and 166 days, Tahir surpassed the previous world record held by Cook Islands spinner Tomakanute Ritawa, who took a five-for against Fiji in 2022 at the age of 46 years and 299 days.

In an extraordinary display of longevity, Tahir's name appears four times in the top six list of the oldest players to claim a T20 five-wicket haul. Beyond his top-ranked 2026 performance, he holds the third-oldest record (5/21 for Guyana in 2025 at age 46) and fourth-oldest (5/26 for Rangpur Riders in 2024 at age 44).
